Intro

The United States spends more than $80 billion dollars every year on incarcerating youth and adults in jails, prisons, juvenile halls and immigrant prisons. Since 1990, state and local spending on higher education, like colleges and universities, hasn’t increased at all while spending on jails and prisons has drastically increased by 89%. It is time to end this culture of punishment, and replace it with a culture of prevention.

Let's invest in

#SchoolsNotPrisons is a leading campaign at the intersection of arts, culture and justice.

A thriving online community dedicated to ending mass incarceration through the power of art, music, culture and activism. #SchoolsNotPrisons partners with communities hardest hit by mass incarceration to transform the justice system across the country.

#SchoolsNotPrisons launched in 2016 as a free music and art tour in partnership with California communities most impacted by the overuse of punishment and incarceration. Today we continue to strive to divest out of prisons and promote investment in people not prisons.
